Wulfener Hals wins the European Environmental Award "EMAS Awards 2012"
Camping- and Holidaypark Wulfener Hals on the Baltic sea island of Fehmarn was honored on 29 November 2012 by an international jury as winner of the European environmental award "EMAS Awards 2012" for the environmental services in water management. More than 8,000 organizations certified to the European environmental management system EMAS were invited to promote their environmental commitment in water management.
European Commission Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik, in his opening speech, emphasized the importance of using our environmetal resources efficiently and described all the organizations involved as pioneers of systematic and innovative environmental management and important examples for others around the world.
It was selected in six categories: small, medium-sized and large enterprises and public institutions. The Wulfener Hals was awarded as a European winner in the small buisness category. Managing Director Volker Riechey:
"We were very pleased that we were able to convince not only within the camping industry, but also beyond with our environmental concept. Here we have been in competition across all sectors, for example with paper maufactures, chemical companies or breweries. That's why it's all the more beautiful that the jury has chosen our concept."
Malte Riechey, the family-owned company's environmental officer, adds: "We have developed an integrated water cycle system in which all the wantities of water used at our holiday resort are cleaned in our own wasterwater treatment plant and then used via UV disinfection. The cleanly treated water is rained on the green areas to save precious drinking water resources."
The Camping- and Holiday Park Wulfener Hals is confirmed in its long-standing commitment to the environment and will continue to work to ensure the best possible environmental protection in the company, because "maintaining an intact nature is the most important prerequisite for giving our guests a nice holiday," concludes Riechey.

Sustainable tourism protection with conviction
With our environmental brochure we want to give you an insight into our understanding of sustainable tourism and introduce you to some environmental protection measures. As a tourism company on the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast, we are aware that we can only operate succesfully in a healthy environment and must actively contribute to the conservation of bature and environment. In order to put this claim into practice, we have decided to introduce environmental management systems in the individual companies of our company and to take voluntary protective measures in order to be able to live even more in harmony with nature. We would like to introduce you to some of these measures and show you what you can do as a guest and actually consume environmental resources. With our unique island location - enclosed by east and inland lake - with sandy beach, steep shore and headland, we have to be careful to leave an intact nature for recreation even to future holidaymakers. We would like to take you along this path, because sustainable tourism only works together with you. But we would also like to thank you, because your active cooperation is our incentive for further ecological commitment. Have fun reading!
